September 11, 2012 — The Side-Out Foundation and the Junior Volleyball Association (JVA) announce the Side-Out/JVA National Dig Pink® Award! This new award is part of the Side-Out Ambassador Program (SOAP), offering award opportunities to students who participate in Side-Out’s Dig Pink® events. Specifically, the Side-Out/JVA National Dig Pink® Award recognizes volleyball club players/teams who adopt Side-Out’s mission and impact their communities through education, volleyball and fundraising.

The concept behind SOAP is that students develop a commitment to community and an understanding of breast cancer, and that they learn the value of teamwork in situations outside the gym. JVA executive director, Jenny Hahn, said “We are fully devoted to Side-Out and its mission. The JVA is passionate about building well-rounded players, nurturing their athletic ability and encouraging self-awareness.” Rick Dunetz of Side-Out says it’s a perfect fit: “Jenny and her team offer enthusiasm, athletic expertise and an appreciation for the potential of young athletes. We are really excited to be collaborating with them.”

Last year’s award winners surpassed all expectations, and both Side-Out and the JVA are excited to meet new volleyball leaders who care about the cause. The Side-Out/JVA National Dig Pink® Award will be offered in the 2013 club season. There will be three national awards; winners will receive both a plaque and a certificate of recognition. Individual club players as well as entire club teams are eligible. Players and coaches nominate peers/teams and the three players and/or clubs that receive the most nominations over a 2 week period (May 13-May 27, 2013) will win!
